hi there,

My next project is a 3D documentary, and we have two different units using two different cameras (first unit is using Sony F950 with remoted image blocks, and pickups with Panasonic 3DA-1).  I've heard that you should only using matching cameras when shooting 3D, but the sony rig is impossible to get into some of the locations we need to shoot in.  What are some of the issues that we should look out for, and will we have issues in post with these different formats?

thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Usually when people talk about making sure that your 3D cameras match they are talking about the two cameras that make up the rig itself. The depth of field on the 3DA1 will be deeper than the 950 but 3D tends to favor a deeper DOF anyway so you should be good.

One thing to keep in mind with the 3DA1 is keeping the cards organized. The camera has no way of telling you which card is left and which is right, when I tested the camera we went ahead an labeled our CF cards right and left to make sure we wouldn't mix them up.
