Hey guys! The video was very cool! I'm subscribed to many podcasts covering different topics, but some of them just offer quick show notes or links to check more info related to the discussion. It was an excellent idea to add a video feed which you can easily sync with the audio. Screencasts have been around for a while, but it's not the same concept. You guys already thinking about 4K or 3D? XD
Now, in regards to Mr. Cioni's words on FCX, I do agree with much of what was stated. Whether you call it the editing equivalent of floppy disc removal, Model T, disruptive force, forward thinking, game changer or Hendrix-break-the-rules experience, these are very exciting times for us power users who heavily rely on tech to do our job. Major turning points like this one aren't easily digested, that's for sure. Hopefully, in hindsight, we'll look back and sigh deeply remembering when our work was encumbered by the use of a silly GUI toy called mouse or those excruciatingly slow, unreliable, mechanical hard drives.
However, this "jump to the future" comes at a price. I've listened to several podcasts covering the FCX controversial release and some pros are definitely pissed and/or disappointed. I'm sure Apple did consider the fact that many of these users have heavily invested on expensive gear and software to create a high-end FC workflow, but ultimately decided to make a sacrifice in favor of progress of this industry. Like any political implications derived from a sensitive diplomatic maneuver or an unsettling chess move, time will tell if such risky approach was taken at the right moment and for the right purpose.
As a Logic 9 user I can see the potential for a revamped version which may radically change the way we approach music production. Although I can't overlook some similar earthquakes disrupting the industry like what happened to GigaStudio users. Also, if Apple were to remove FW800 and the optical bay in the near future our audio interfaces, DSP boxes and multi-gigabyte sample libraries would be seriously compromised. Apple is pushing Thunderbolt in its hardware, so that's a sign that many changes are ahead of us. Let's hope they give us some time to adapt and assimilate.
So, kudos to you guys for the follow along video!
Looking forward to the next episode. ;)
