Is there a way to speed up h.264 creation? I have a bunch of footage i want to get onto my website but it's taking me forever…

I've got a new Mac Pro, 8 Core 2.4GHz, 6GB ram, Kona 3G

Good question, and I totally agree that it's a real pain to wait while your machine crunches away at a bunch of h.264s. The one sure fire way to speed that up is getting a specific h.264 processing card. The one I've had the best luck with is the Matrox compress HD card. It's a 1x PCIe ($500) card that can compress HD video to h.264 in way less than real time, so an hour of 1080 ProRes is web ready in 25 – 40 min.

It works with compressor or any other QT app by presenting you with it's own codec, so you can go stright out of FCP, Affter Effects or Compressor. The only issue is doing any post processing in Compressor like timecode burns or color correction, that slows it down to normal speed but for finished clips that need to be web or iOS ready fast it works great.

Hope that helps,…..ompresshd/
