EPISODE 02: Vision Research’s High Speed PHANTOM Cameras

Plaster City Post

|| Special Guests: Mitch Gross (Abel Cine Tech) and Rick Robinson (Vision Research) ||

Until very recently, high speed live action photography, whether for feature films, or commercials, was acquired exclusively using film cameras, such as those made by Photosonics. Vision Research has created a breakthrough product in its Phantom Camera line of cameras by allowing for the digital acquisition of live action footage at frame rates as incredibly high as 1000,000 frames-per-second. How is this possible? What frame rates are available at different resolutions? What workflow must one follow to download the footage? How much can you acquire in one burst?

All these questions and more, are addressed when Steve and Suny talk through the inner workings of Vision Research’s incredible line of high speed cameras.
